7/3/2023 0 Comments Unbound worlds apart abilities![]() I’ve honestly had a strong passion for games from a young age. ![]() Thanks for chatting with us! Can you please tell us a bit about how Alien Pixel came to life? Why did you decide to jump into indie game development? We had a chance to connect with lead designer Sergiu Craitoiu as he talks about quitting his day job to commit to Unbound full-time, why Alien Pixel chose to go with crowdfunding, and what it was like learning Unreal Engine 4 while jumping into development. Using portals to different dimensions as a clever mechanic to introduce new player abilities, Unbound is a dark fairy tale that is rife with unique puzzles and the boost of support from enthusiastic backers opens up the opportunity for even more possibilities. Having achieved their funding goal, Alien Pixel is now looking to finish the second half of the game. With initial development starting back in August of 2016, Unbound: Worlds Apart is currently wrapping up its Kickstarter. The result is a hand-painted platformer that cleverly uses portals to bring mind-bending multi-dimensional puzzles to reality. Learning Unreal Engine 4 on the fly as they dove into development, the duo leaned on a multitude of resources from Reddit to YouTube to get up to speed on everything the engine has to offer. So far, basic gameplay is just looking for required objectives to complete your current area to progress to next one such as locating crystals to open a portal or collecting mushrooms to open door.Por Shawn Petraschuk Unbound: Worlds Apart is a stunning looking project being brought to life by two-person studio Alien Pixel. Puzzles / gimmicks don't really repeat themselves and you've constantly facing something new and fun with each new area. The artstyle is fantastic and each NPC have a unqiue look. It's fairly challenging but pretty forgiving and generous with checkpoints. So far, the game have been pretty enjoyable from my first 5 hours, there's some collectibles but nothing obscured that isn't obvious on your map. This is used to solve puzzles, help you with platforming, etc. You only get a basic jump and an ability to create a rift that can do only one function depending on locations such as freezing / slowing time, turning you into a block, changing enemies to something else, etc. I've seen one boss fight so far that required some platforming to defeat. There are some ability gating and I found a double jump and wall jump but this game is purely a platformer with no combat. ![]() ![]() This game feel like it's roughly 75% platformer and 25% Metroidvania. This one just came out few days ago and I haven't seen anyone talking about this here so thought I'd throw this post up.
